Macrotek Commissioned for Ground-Breaking Nickel Mine Start-Up in Madagascar
November 4, 2011
Madagascar, Africa
Macrotek has been commissioned for start-up in one of the most ground-breaking projects in Madagascar history. A world leading nickel and mining refiner will begin the start-up of a large-tonnage, long-life nickel and cobalt mining enterprise located in Madagascar. At a construction cost of approximately US$5.5 billion, the Project is the largest ever foreign investment in the country – and one of the biggest in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
Macrotek, a leader in air pollution control equipment, had been selected to design and fabricate three vent gas scrubbers in 2010 and is currently involved with start-up of the equipment in Madagascar. The system includes one ammonia and two H2S scrubbers.
The mechanical completion of the mine is expected in 2012.
