Hydrometallurgical extraction of metals such as Nickel and Cobalt generate emissions of lethal gases such as Hydrogen Sulphide or Hydrogen Chloride. Macrotek has designed and supplied many systems to capture and treat these gases. In most cases the by-product is returned back to the process for reuse.

Pyrometallurgical extraction of metals from sulphur containing ores generate large amounts of SO2 and particulate emissions. Macrotek has designed integrated systems to capture particulate and neutralizes SO2.

Chemical plants may generate vents containing various contaminants that are unique and site-specific. An experienced engineering team will custom design a system solution that will be specific to the application refining processes.

Incineration & Thermal Treatment

Waste incineration, including solid municipal and hazardous waste, biomedical waste and hazardous liquid are all continually under more stringent scrutiny by regulators. Macrotek has designed and supplied many integrated systems to meet most guidelines. In several installations, hazardous waste has been combined with radioactive waste, requiring nearly non-detectable emission levels for many of the contaminants.

Macrotek has installed and tested systems for these processes with the results significantly better than required standards.

Macrotek has designed numerous cutting edge technologies that include integrated wet and dry scrubbers followed by a polishing carbon bed. Macrotek’s global solution included acid gas absorbers, particulate control, and dioxin removal. Macrotek’s scope includes design of the complete system, vessels, pump and piping system, instrumentation and controls, structural support and access.

Gasification & Synthetic Gas

Gasification and synthetic gas production from various waste products are becoming increasingly important energy recovery technologies.

Often, the synthetic gas contains various hazardous contaminants including H2S, HCl and other acids, heavy metals, and tars

The gas requires cleaning before it is introduced in the engine or boiler. Most of these processes generate significant concentration of tars. The tars can vary from very low molecular weight to large and complex chains.

The combination of these contaminants demand the most advanced integrated gas clean-up solution. Macrotek has been supporting the gasification and synthetic gas production industry since the 1980s and has supplied a full scale system that has been operating for several years.

Our advanced, integrated systems include a quench tower, absorber-cooler and venturi wet collection system, followed by a conditioning dry dust collector, and finally a carbon bed polishing unit.

Petrochemical, Oil & Fertilizer

Refineries and chemical plants increasingly face stringent environmental regulations in today’s industry while also consistently attempting to maximize output efficiency.

Stringent regulations all over the world, including the new Boiler MACT ruling, are being enforced on new and existing air pollution control systems. Many of the existing scrubbers are having a more difficult time meeting performance criteria.
