Packed Bed Scrubbers

Vertical Packed Bed Scrubber

The Macrotek Packed Bed Scrubber utilizes a vertical counter-current design for high efficient absorption of gases. In the vertical counter-current design, gas flows upward while scrubbing liquid flows down through banks of sprays. The absorption of gases takes place in the scrubber’s random packing section and scrubbing liquid is introduced in a liquid trough or spray distribution system. A high efficiency mist eliminator removes entrained liquids, an essential step in performance of the scrubber system. Depending on the application, a regulated amount of reagent is added to the recirculating liquid to react with the pollutant. The reaction product will be carried with other particulates in the re-circulating liquid and exits the system through a controlled blow-down stream. Clean gas exits the top of the vessel.

Horizontal Packed Bed Scrubber

The Macrotek Packed Bed Scrubber utilizes a horizontal cross-flow design for high efficient absorption of gases. In the horizontal cross-flow design, gas flows horizontally while scrubbing liquid flows down through a liquid distribution system. The scrubber includes a random packing section where the absorption of gases occurs. A high efficiency mist eliminator removes entrained liquids. This is an essential step in the overall performance of the scrubber system. Re-circulating liquid is sprayed vertically down, cross-flow to the gas flow. A regulated amount of reagent is mixed in the re-circulating liquid to maintain a target set-point. The contaminants in the gas react with the selected reagent. The reaction product is carried with other particulates in the re-circulating liquid. An integral sump is located at the base of the packing section, eliminating the need for an external tank.
