Macrotek Ships Modular Ammonia Removal and Recovery Systems to Southern Caribbean

Clean air solutions company, Macrotek Inc., has successfully shipped two modular ammonia cleanup systems to the Southern Caribbean for one of the world’s largest ammonia and urea producers.

Macrotek’s innovative design will control ammonia emissions, meeting and exceeding all fugitive emission requirements. The process will also generate a valuable, usable by-product, resulting in quick return on investment.

Phase one of the systems includes the collection of ammonia vapours from tank vents. A two-stage scrubber converts the ammonia into a high purity ammonium salt by-product which is also generated in other parts of the plant. The conversion of ammonia to ammonium salt is accomplished using acid as the reagent. Using this strategy, ammonia emissions are reduced and recovery is optimized.

Macrotek’s package included modular pre-packaged construction to minimize fieldwork and reduce installation cost.

The system was shipped in July with expected start-up in fall 2019.
